May is Melanoma Awareness Month

Today is Melanoma Monday – the official start of Melanoma Awareness Month. Did you know that MUSC Hollings Cancer Center offers the only comprehensive melanoma treatment program in South Carolina?

With summer right around the corner – and melanoma diagnoses on the rise – this is the perfect time to remember how to keep you and your family safe from this potentially fatal form of skin cancer:

  • Always wear a minimum of 15 SPF sunscreen
  • Avoid tanning beds
  • Seek the shade between 10am and 4pm
  • Have an annual full-body skin check

The Spa at Charleston Place hosts it’s 4th annual “I Will Reflect” kickoff party tonight – May 2nd – starting at 6pm. Enjoy hors-d’oeuvres, cocktails, a swimwear fashion show and a silent auction. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10. Proceeds from the evening – and from special spa treatments offered throughout the summer – will benefit skin cancer research at MUSC.
