An $800,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health was recently awarded to Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. The funds will support research into how genetics and race affect cancer diagnosis rates, initially focusing on breast and prostate cancers.
The funds will also help establish the South Carolina Cancer Disparities Research Center, a collaboration between researchers from MUSC and S.C. State University.
