New MUSC Health East Cooper Building Now Open

The new MUSC Health East Cooper building began welcoming patients on July 9th. This state of the art facility is the newest venture for MUSC Physicians and brings top specialists together in one centralized Mt. Pleasant location. MUSC Health East Cooper has helped attract more nationally recognized doctors to the Lowcountry, meaning that patients will now have easy access to advanced coordinated healthcare by doctors who are pioneering new ways to treat and heal in areas such as primary care, comprehensive women’s breast care, urology, and other services.

Beyond a new level of coordination now available in Mt. Pleasant, MUSC Health East Cooper offers the convenience of free parking, a medical concierge, a soothing rooftop healing garden and Black Bean Company Café. Art from local and regional artists grace the walls of both floors, featuring the talents of DuBose Blakeney, Yve Assad, Richard Rose and Jocelyn Chateauvert.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on July 10th where Vice President of Medical Affairs and Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Etta Pisano and the President of MUSC Physicians, Dr. Philip Costello addressed the media discussing the advantages of having MUSC expertise in Mount Pleasant. Mayor Pro Tem, Thomasena Stokes-Marshall thanked MUSC for taking the community into consideration when planning and designing the medical center.

MUSC Health East Cooper is officially open to patients. Several services will be immediately available including Imaging, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology, and Lab Services, among others. Additional services will move in throughout the next few months, with Cardiology slated for November 2012.

Those of us who live in Mt. Pleasant are happy this facility is now open. It would have been nice if the powers that be had invited the MUSC Retired Faculty group to the opening! Perhaps a tour of the facility might be offered to this group in the future. Thank you.
