Remember the man from Anderson, SC, who, about a year ago, began walking the streets to ask people for a kidney for his beloved wife? Well, it worked. MUSC performed a living donor kidney transplant on her a few days ago!
After Larry and Jimmy Sue Swilling’s story ran in news outlets across the country a year ago, thousands of people called to offer their kidneys. More than 100 of those went through the testing to see if they were a match.
One of those was a match for Jimmy Sue. The transplant surgery went very well, and both the donor and Jimmy Sue are recovering. Larry has vowed to continue to help find kidneys for other patients in need.
