MUSC was a proud sponsor of the 4th Annual Jerry Zucker Rider for Hope on Sunday, October 30th. This cycling event raised over $110,000 for local cancer organizations throughout the Charleston area. Despite the freezing temperatures, close to 150 riders partcipated this year, including 10 riders with Team MUSC and John Sanders, the administrator for MUSC’s Children’s Hospital who’s currently battling lung cancer.
Riders chose from a 100k, a 30 mile and a Family Fun ride – all starting from the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Center in Park West. World-renowned Olympic cyclist and Tour de France competitor George Hincapie participated again this year, as well as Anita Zucker, whose late husband Jerry Zucker was well known for his philanthropic efforts in the Charleston community. The race was named in his honor as a way to remember his battle with cancer and continue the fight for others.
