MUSC is a proud local sponsor of Go Red For Women, the American Heart Association (AHA) campaign designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.
For years, MUSC has worked closely with the AHA to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease as our state’s number-one killer of men and women. MUSC’s Women’s Heart Care program educates women about the risk factors and unique symptoms of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular disease to encourage prevention, early detection and effective treatment.
That’s why we are so proud to know South Carolina’s first national Go Red Spokeswoman, Keisha Hawes. A young mother of three, Keisha had her heart attack when she was only 31 years old. And like so many moms, she put her health concerns and symptoms last in her long list of priorities. As a survivor, Keisha is sharing her story to encourage other women and spread hope.
Watch Keisha in this powerful video about the impact heart disease has on moms (Keisha is at the very beginning)–and please share it with all the moms you know. The more women we tell, the more lives we can save.
